Recently it has come to light that Harris County Constable Precinct 4 had at least one employee destroying evidence from their evidence locker. According to Devon Anderson this could affect up to 20,000 pieces of evidence, and hundreds if not thousands of criminal cases. Precinct 4 is on the north side of Houston right where my home offices are located. precinct map This information has been available to the D.A. since January of this year but was not disclosed to defense attorneys until August. This duplicity means, by the DA’s own count, that hundreds of cases with no evidence have lead to convictions in our county. Once again the attitude of “Hide the truth until forced to reveal it” has lead to a miscarriage of justice. Just another reason not to take the DAs office at its word.
